Children take emotional cues from adults. Before the visit, try using calm, simple language. Instead of saying “it won’t hurt,” which can introduce fear, you might say, “The dentist is going to help your tooth feel strong again.”
After the appointment, praise specific behaviors: “You opened so well,” or “You stayed very still.” Positive reinforcement helps future visits feel easier.
